Covering an area of 830 hectares and home to a population of 143 (as recorded in the 2021 census), Simonswood may be small in size, but it is mighty in heritage and heart.
Simonswood has had a body of local residents representing the community since 1727. When it was granted civil parish status in 1866, this group formally became the Simonswood Parish Council. The council is composed of local community representatives who generously volunteer their time to serve and advocate for the interests of the parish.

Simonswood Parish Council is pleased to announce that, following feedback from residents, we will be trialling evening Parish Council meetings over the coming months.
Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) H5N1 has been confirmed near Burscough! A 3km Captive Bird Controlled Zone is in place. Public risk is low, but do not touch sick or dead birds. Report ill birds to APHA (03000 200 301) or dead wild birds to Defra (03459 335577).
Simonswood Parish Council met NHS leaders on 19th September 2025 to challenge travel times, ambulance data & hidden proposal docs. NHS admitted the 180-page plan wasn’t public and promised to publish it and send evidence by 26th Sept — ahead of the 3rd Oct deadline. Residents, have your say!
